Assessing the vulnerability of oil and gas infrastructure to fire hazard

Assessing the vulnerability of oil and gas infrastructure to fire hazard

Order Description

The project will use a risk based approach to develop a comprehensive approach for estimating the vulnerability of oil and gas installations and associated infrastructure to major fire accidents. The project will begin by documenting and analysing major accidents (such as Piper Alpha, Buncefield, Deepwater Horizon etc.). CFD simulations using open source software FireFOAM will be carried out to fully understand and characterise the severity of the fires associated with such events. The measures used to prevent such events and to mitigate the consequences in the event of failure of prevention, will be examined in the context of previous events and the simulations carried out. Recommendations for reducing the vulnerability of such infrastructure to such accidents will finally be provided.
